News

So much is happening at once at the moment, there is only little time left to update the Website. Thats great on the one hand (stuff is happening!), on the other hand this really bugs me. So I want to make at least a few quick updates - hoping that I soon will find the time to do everything in the usual manner and depth! Let´s have a quick look back at 2010.

-> (Southern) Sudan Last trip to the united Sudan before the referendum and the (probably) seperation of the North and South. Juba, December 2010.

-> Pakistan, second time around

After a previous course by the Deutsche Welle Academy, in cooperation with the University of Peshawar, a second, advanced course about childrens television took place in Islamabad last October. It resulted in a new TV-magazine for children and youths, called "Mashum" which was produced by the participants themselves.

Besides the course program, I had the opportunity to accompany the Humanity Care Foundation on their journey to several villiages, most direly affected by the floods around the Swat river, earlier this year and help distribute donations to the needy people there. More about this trip and the Foundation (which depends on private donations) will follow soon.

-> Exhibition in Castle Oranienstein

The exhibition, comissioned as part of a security-political meeting, by the Medical Command II of the German Bundeswehr, was a resounding success and will continue until August 27th, the "Traditional Night", celebrated by the Town of Diez and the Garrison of the Castle. There were some very positive reactions from the press (german language versions can be found HERE, and HERE) and I survived my first official speech before such a large audience slightly stirred, but not shaken!

UPDATE:

The Oranienstein Exhibition ended together with the Traditional Night, in a beautiful Serenade of the 300th Military Music Corps of the German Bundeswehr, a stunning display of fireworks and a great party.
Obviously the fireworks and the big band weren´t meant (solely) for me, I appreciated it anyway :o)
I also had the priviledge, to introduce a lot of people to my work and managed even to sell some of my books. One happy customer can be seen here:

Franz-Josef Jung und V. Picmanova

(For foreign readers: This is former German Minister of Defense, Franz-Josef Jung)

Further positive reaction from the press and the interview can be found HERE and HERE.

-> Pakistan

Of course the current disataster overshadows everything, but the mission with Deutsche Welle to Bara Gali was both very interesting and immensly instructive for me. Some pictures and impressions can be found HERE - more will follow, as soon as I had a chance to work through my entire materiel.
I just can hope that the situation will improve soon for these people and if you don't already have, you might consider to contribute to the aid for Pakistan. The people there are in need of any help they can get.

-> Southern Sudan Radio, Sudan

Not Asia for once: Before Pakistan, I visited southern Sudan. Once more with Deutsche Welle, we went there to assist Southern Sudan Radio located in this poor but fascinating region. Some Pictures can be found HERE. Again: More will follow.

-> Dushanbe and Khujand, Tajikistan

Before THAT trip, I had the opportunity to partitipate in a training about election coverage for journalists, just before the last presidential elections in Tajikistan. Even if this country is geographically close to Afghanistan, the cultural and societal differences are astounding, even when they where to be expected. HERE are some first pictures.
