Science, Communication & Trust in Complex Information Environments

Media @work

As a trained audiovisual producer and photojournalist, I traveled to numerous (post-)conflict zones between 2005 and 2013 - including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Egypt, and South Sudan. My goal was simple: to use my strengths in visual and audio storytelling to make a difference..

By sharing my media expertise through local journalism training (on behalf of DW Akademie), I sought to support a free press and strengthen democratic structures in these regions.

Despite the immense challenges, I encountered countless extraordinary people along the way. 🤩

A personal note:

How you treat people shapes how they respond - and the stories they allow you to share.

Below, I’ve collected some impressions from my work in
media training, photo documentaries and exhibitions.

Enjoy exploring!

Media Development & Capacity Building | Afghanistan

Kabul | 2005–2006

Following the fall of the Taliban, I led key media development and hands-on capacity-building initiatives in Afghanistan.

My work focused on strengthening both the editorial and technical infrastructure of the state broadcaster Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA). This included establishing the country’s first international news department, conducting technical evaluations, restructuring teams, and delivering practical, hands-on training for journalists, editors, and technical personnel.

To ensure sustainable impact, I developed modern editorial workflows and professional media standards tailored to the local context.

Key Milestone: The project culminated in an official launch ceremony where Afghan Foreign Minister Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta, German Foreign Minister Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and the Director General of RTA jointly pressed the red buzzer - symbolizing the start of a new journalistic era in Afghanistan.
