ABOUT ME
Veronika
Pičmanová
Dipl.sc.pol.Univ.
Hi, I’m Veronika – a Political Scientist, Audiovisual Producer, and Science Communicator with a passion for storytelling that bridges science, media, and humanity.
Born in Prague, raised in Munich, and shaped by my travels across the globe, I’ve spent years working in international and interdisciplinary environments. My journey has taken me from war zones to the heart of scientific research, where I’ve dedicated my career to telling the stories that matter most.
I hold a degree in Political Science (Dipl.sc.pol.Univ.) and am a certified Audiovisual Producer (IHK). As a member of the Audit Committee and an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Salzburg, I’ve combined my academic background with hands-on media expertise.
My work has been driven by a simple belief: communication has the power to connect, educate, and inspire.
My Work
🎬 Audiovisual Producer & Media Trainer
Between 2005 and 2013, I worked in (post-)conflict areas like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Egypt, South Sudan, the Republic of Moldova, and Tajikistan, training local media professionals and helping to lay the foundations for free and independent media. From establishing the first international news department at Radio Television Afghanistan after the fall of the Taliban to setting up a state radio station for South Sudan’s independence referendum, I’ve seen firsthand how media can drive change.
📸 Visual Storyteller
My passion for photography has taken me to the frontlines of some of the world’s most pressing issues. My first book, "Fotoreportage: Afghanistan Leben & Sehen", is a unique blend of technical insights into photography in conflict zones and deeply personal stories from the people I met in Afghanistan. Through my photographs, I aim to capture not only the challenges but also the resilience and humanity of those living in difficult circumstances. My work has been featured in exhibitions, showcasing the power of visual storytelling to connect people across borders.
🌍 International Civilian Consultant for NATO
In my role as an International Civilian Consultant and Forward Media Team Leader for NATO, I had the opportunity to further hone my communication and networking skills. This experience allowed me to work at the intersection of politics, media, and international relations, contributing to strategic communication efforts in complex environments.
⚗️ Science Communicator & Digital Communication Lead
Fascinated by the intersection of science and society, I’ve worked as a Science Communications Manager for EU-funded research projects and currently serve as the Lead Social Media and Digital Communication Manager. In this role, I oversee digital strategies, create engaging content, and ensure that complex scientific topics are communicated effectively to a broad audience. My work bridges the gap between science and the public, making research accessible and impactful.
👩🏫 University Lecturer & Mentor
Sharing knowledge has always been a core part of my work. As an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Salzburg and through various training programs, I’ve helped shape the next generation of communicators, scientists, and media professionals.
🌍Languages & Global Perspective
I speak Czech, German, English, Spanish, and a bit Farsi, and my multicultural background has given me a unique perspective on the world. Whether I’m documenting scientific breakthroughs, teaching in a classroom, or collaborating on international projects, I strive to build bridges between cultures, disciplines, and ideas.
